Essie is a creature of modernity! Not only does she ask for our phones but she loves to flip through pictures naming her cousins and our family. She loves apps for kids and can't get enough http://www.starfall.com/. It's pretty crazy how comfortable she is with touch screens.

She's a darling. If only we had an i-pad for her to play with. Sarah's Galaxy S is a nice phone but Essie is still working on her fine motor control and sometimes the small screen just doesn't work very well. We're hoping to win a free i-pad from Zagg and @ZAGGDaily. We're big fans of their products. My new website

Ok so I realize I have not updated in like 5 months (that will come too) but I had something that has been occupying my thought. Me and My friend Brittney have created a website about Family Recreation- playwithyourfamily.com. As most of you know, this is what I studied in school and I love researching about it. So I thought I would share my findings.

Do not judge my future website by the looks of this blog. Even though we are amateurs we hope to have an affective good looking site some day. It has been exciting to figure out how to make a website and stuff.

BYU Volleyball game. I thought since we call Essie the hungry bear that she would be able to hold her own with a little cougar. Who would have thought Cosmo was so scary?

Daily joys...

Maybe it is this Thanksgiving season that makes me want to express all of the things I am grateful for. There are so many things that make me happy throughout the day. Here are just a few of them. Ester feels so proud of herself when she accomplishes something hard. This is her making sure that I am aware of the great thing she just did. The dishwasher is her favorite thing to climb on. She is figuring out how to take everything out. Dishes take twice as long now (which we all know is the last thing that I want) but she is so darn cute doing it, I just can't stop her.
I hope she never looses that courage to try new things.

Ester and I play tag all day. Most of the time Ester is it and chases me all around the house as I go about doing whatever I am doing. When I stop long enough for her to catch me, this is what I see, her saying "mom you are it," or in other words "pay attention to me." I am always caught with a smile or a laugh that warms my heart.

I have so enjoyed the colors of fall. We have had perfect fall weather these last few weeks. My Aunt has given me the opportunity to work in her yard when I can. I have loved that connection with the earth. It is so therapeutic to me. These are a few scraps from a bush I trimmed at her house.

Ester loves her cousins and friends. She always gets excited to see another little being like her. I guess I am the same way. I love to be with Ester all day, but when someone my own ageish comes around I light up too. We all need friends! I am so grateful for my wonderful friends and family.

I love football season. There is something special in the air when a game is going on. Maybe it was all those years of cheer leading with the adrenaline and excitement.

There is not a cuter cheerleader than little Es.

Lately Matt and I have been learning to golf. With Matt's new job he gets a free golf pass. This has been such a fun activity for us to do together. I am awful at it, but it feels so good to learn some new skill. Ester ever comes with us sometimes and claps for us.

There is nothing better than a warm bowl of homemade chili and corn bread on a cold day. I have been obsessed with soups this fall. I think that is all I have made for dinner in a long time (partly because that is all the ingredients we have in our cupboards). Any kind of soup, stew or chili will do.

BYU. I am grateful for BYU. I loved my education and experiences I had while I was a student. I am very grateful for the education Matt has received. But I also just love that there is always something fun going on on campus. This was during Homecoming week. I think Essie was the first baby ever to go down the true blue slide of foam. Everyone thought we were crazy.

There is not a better mountain in all the world. Every time I look at it I feel so small and insignificant but at the same time enriched and closer to God ( I think I get that from my dad).

Ester and her love for food. I am grateful that she is not a picky eater and will eat anything I put in front of her. I am grateful that nursing is not the only way to feed her anymore.

I am grateful for all of the new experiences we have had this semester. This is us at the Gala Ball which was probably the fanciest things I have ever been too in my life.

I am especially grateful for a husband who is soft, considerate, fun, creative, thoughtful, service minded, loves the Lord, wants to work hard and do what is right, and takes such good care of his wife.

Ester is grateful for a dad who plays with her every night, can calm her down no matter what, gives her lots of kisses and nuzzles, does all kinds of cool tricks with her, and always makes her laugh.

I could go on and on. Basically I am blessed and life is good!

Our Trip Across the Country

We had a great time in Lander, WY with Matt's cousins. We played with the chickens and dog, ate from the garden, played board games, and my favorite -going on a beautiful hike where we slid down a rock slide into ice cold water. Thanks for all the fun!

A beautiful rainbow after the scary sirens from the tornado watch. We were watching the news very carefully, ready to bolt into the bathroom with our 72 hour kits any second.
Ester loved her bike ride through beautiful Minnesota. We stopped at this farm to see the cows too and she thought that was so cool. It is so green and luscious there, you can feel it.

This was my favorite stop in the Mall of America- The American Girl Store. We use to get American Girl stuff every Christmas. It was the highlight of our year. I use to dress like my dolls (Kirstin and Felicity). We played with them ALL the time. In this store they have a barber shop for the dolls and a little restaurant where you and your doll are served together. It was so cute!

Thanks Cam for the great time together. I wish it could of been longer. I always want to see and spend time with my great sisters. Sure love ya!

Nauvoo- City of Joseph

So I had to put this kissy picture up because it has so much history. Matt and I both did a semester in Nauvoo at the Joseph Smith Academy. When I was there, Matt was on his mission and I would eagerly await his letters. I remember sitting in front of the temple wishing that he was there with me. Then Matt's first semester back from his mission, he went to Nauvoo and we would talk on the phone late into the night. He would sit in front of the temple talking to me and we both ached to be there together. We knew we would make it back to our beloved Nauvoo together some day. So here we are making our dreams come true.
Essie was just dripping in sweat poor girl. This is where the JSA use to be. We snuck away from the BYU folk dancer performance to watch the sunset on the Mississippi.

We were able to do a session in the beautiful Nauvoo temple. It was my first time- and it was breath-taking.

The girls (Alyssa-Ty's cousin, Ester, Me, Saylor, Chels, Autumn-Ty's sister, Delynn-Ty's mom). Thanks to Brother and Sister Smith we had a wonderful place to stay over night in Nauvoo. One of my favorite parts of the trip was staying up late figuring out rhymes, laughing so so hard, and eating all of the wonderful treats Brother Smith bought us. Goodness it was fun!

While most of us were hot and tired, Essie was having a great time. She is always such a joy!

This is Chelsey's specialty. She always makes fun in a bad situation. Here we were, pulled over on the side of the highway because we ran over a deer and the engine was smoking, and Chels decides to play truth or dare. So Ty and Chels are laying in the middle of the highway. That is why I love Chels. She is so easy to be around and turns everything into a fun memory.

We had a great picnic at Adam-Ondi-Ahman while Matt educated us about the significance of where we were sitting. It was pretty mind boggling to think of what had happened there and what will happen there. Pretty powerful stuff.

Now that we are back in Utah it feels so empty without Chels and Ty. We miss our best friends.
This was on our way to explore the Omish world. We sure stuck out riding in a convertable through their dirt streets. It was like stepping back a hundred years. But I truly felt respect and love for the people we met and talked with.

Kirtland Ohio- Our first stop

We were reminded that the Saints were in Kirtalnd longer than any other place, besides Salt Lake. There are so many amazing stories, sacrifices, and revelations that happened in Kirtland.

The Whitney Family was my favorite to learn about. They became my new heros and I hope to gain as much faith, perserverance and humily as they did through loving and living the gospel.
I forget where this was, but it was exciting.

New York City

The temple is hard to pick out if you are not looking. It was a very impressive temple. Inside was breathtaking. And Matt and I had a very special experience I hope we never forget there. A huge thanks to Kirstin and Steve for letting us stay at your place (which was 2 blocks down the street from the temple). You made our NY experience an unforgettable one.

Ground Zero. Wow, I did not think it would have had such an impact on us. This was Matt's favorite stop in NY hands down. I am glad that when September 11th comes in a couple days it will have new meaning to us.

This is the couple that gave our tour of ground zero. The man was actually working in the second tower the day it was hit. The story is remarkable. Thank you for helping us understand how this awful event had such an impact on the citizens of the United States.

This is our confused, overwhelmed, over-stimulated, happy little angel. She handled the crazy schedule and commotion like a charm.

The Bull. We had quite a few really funny encounters with Koreans on our trip as well. They are always shocked to see a typical American girl who knows their language (at least a little bit).

I loved this garden at Mount Vernon. I am realizing more and more my need to connect with nature often. I am also reminded of how hot it was every single day this summer. My face was always this color.

Part of me fantasizes about living on a plantation like this (without the slaves of course).

This is the George Washington Masonic Temple. We learned a lot about George Washington this summer. After visiting alot of his favorite places, home, and monuments I feel like we have a relationship. Weird how that works.

Somehow we did not feel closer to Obama after visiting his house.

We loved the Smithsonian Museums. They provide hours or free entertainment and education. I put this picture up because I discovered I really have a love for modern art. I use to think it had no point but to make people confused, but now I think it is beauty.

One of my favorite places was hanging out in the kitchen with my little helper. She is such a joy to be around.

The DC temple is absolutely huge. We had a wonderful time there.

Georgetown is a happenin and uppity place. There was a line all the way down the block for one of these famous cupcakes. Boy were they delicious.

We do not have a very good picture of it, but Arlington cemetery was one of my favorite places. Along with the Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials, it has a sacred and life changing effect on all who visit. We could not help but get emotional and feel so grateful to all those who have sacrificed for freedom.

Virginia update

So this is my first time blogging since Essie was born. Matt has been a great daddy and has taken great care of both of his girls. We sure love him so so so much!

This is when Ester loved her car seat. Wow I can't believe how much she has grown up in one month. Can't you just hear those adorable cooing noises coming out of her mouth?

Matt and I were separated for a month. So we had to remind Essie of who her dad was by talking on the phone. It was so cute. She would hear his voice and then get all happy and excited.

Ester loved playing with her cousins in Boise. I will have to post a picture of all 4 new baby girls together. But this one is just fun. I think Clara was hungry.

Es loves her toes these days. She is always playing with them and sucking on them. Now is is even figuring out how to hold her bottle with her feet!

Matt and I were creating a beautiful salad when Essie had this huge blow out (what's new) and dripped all over the floor. We rushed her into the sink and she was just so cute with all of those colorful veggies. It looks like and Anne Geddes picture huh.

We had an amazing fourth of July in the nations capital. We went to a free concert right on the lawn of the Capital. It was a pretty surreal feeling to be right where the government meets and makes decisions. I truly felt proud to be an American. I was more grateful for this county than I ever have been (except when I got home from my mission). In fact I went to see the Declaration of Independence the other day and it was a moving experience. I know those men were led by God.

We watched the fireworks on a bridge that crossed the Potomac. The Lincoln is right behind us and the Washington Memorial is sticking out of the top of my head. It was so much fun.

Ester's first 4th of July.

One of Ester's nicknames is "hungry bear." She is always hungry and is rarely satisfied. She we have started to feed her rice cereal. She did not like it very much at first. But she is getting the hang of it.

We are loving Virginia. There are so many adventures just waiting to happen. We had a picnic in Georgetown for Matt's Birthday. Happy 26 honey!

The national Cathedral. It was amazing. We snuck in and heard a choir practicing. Matt and I both felt the Spirit many times. It was a great experience.

Downtown Alexandria

Sarah came and picked me up from work on Friday and as we ventured to find the metro for our ride home we took a stroll through downtown Alexandria. Sarah thought we had taken a trip into the past because everything seemed so old fashion. On our walk we ran into performances in the streets. But the performances weren't like most big city music performance beggars. These were people tap dancing to hard music, violin, cello, and crystal wine glass type music. It was really really fun to see the city. Alexandria is full of old time shops and lots of the bars are called pubs or taverns. The dress code was most different from anywhere we've been. Most all the women were in dresses (luckily Sarah wore one just by chance) and all the men are still in their business casual.

We loved our stroll and found out there is months and months of activities to do while we live in the East Coast.

Two Week Vacation in Boise

Baby Briggs' First 24 Hours of Life

Valentines Day

We started off our wonderful Valentines Day Weekend with breakfast made with love!

Then I sent Matt on a scavenger hunt to all of our significant places in Provo. Every place had a clue and if he got it right he received one of his many favorite things. We started out playing racket ball and basketball at the RB.

Then we went to several other places on BYU campus including where he first called me when I got home off the mish and where I drop him off at school every day.

This is at Rock Canyon Park where Matt first told me he loved me 4 years ago when he drove down from Rexburg to surprise me for Valentines.

Of course the temple where we can remember that our love is eternal. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful husband that I want to be with forever and ever. He is truly my biggest blessing, I can't imagine a more perfect best friend and husband. He is so good to me.

Among other places, we also went to the canyon where Matt proposed to me almost exactly 2 years ago.

We ended up at Ty's parents house where we had a romantical lunch set up and waiting for us. We made heart shaped pizzas with Chels and Ty and then had chocolate fondue. It was awesome.

Matt kept saying that it was the best valentines day ever.

I learned how to make beautiful and delicious valentines chocolates for Matt.

Michelle and I through a sweethearts ball at work. Complete with a nominated King and Queen, DJ, refreshments... it turned out perfect, everyone had a blast!

More Fun Happenings

And here I am still totally pregnant, waiting for my little girl to arrive. So far she seems pretty content just hanging out with Mommy in her tummy all day. Meanwhile I have been working, Matt has been studying and we have been preparing as much as we can for our family to go from 2 to 3.

We had such a fun weekend with Matt's family. We had a great baby shower in the morning, hanging out and playing games in the day, and the tumble gym and the volley ball game at night. Thanks so much for coming family!

Christmas Break

Matt and I were given the privilege to be Mary and Joseph in the Briggs nativity this year. I thought we looked the part pretty well.

Matt played Santa at our ward Christmas party and my work Christmas party this year. He really makes the best Santa. He is tall, jolly, and just sweet with the kids and the old folk. I don't know if the kids were more excited to see Santa or if the residents as work were- toss up.

Christmas lights on temple square, with a super exciting visit with Sister Sessions whom we love dearly.

Christmas Break has been a wonderful joy. We've spent time at both houses and love being in Boise. Christmas morning was spent at Matt's house. We did all of the Briggs' traditions, including watching Garfield's Christmas, a big nice dinner, and the nativity. Both Rachel and Amy went to BYU Jerusalem, so our Nativity costumes have transformed into authentic and real middle eastern attire. Of course Matt's parents asked me and Matt to be Mary and Joseph because I'm expecting. It was really fun, in fact Matt actually wore a keep (the little Jewish hat).

After Christmas morning Matt's family went skiing so we got to go to my house on Christmas too. It was super fun because we did all of my traditions as well. A big nice dinner, we played the Grinch game, and did our Christmas Program which included bells and chimes.

Brian and Lisa brought little baby Abigail home today. We left Church early to go and see them off. She's up to 5 lbs. and is the cutest thing ever.

Back to Real Life

We had a fabulous summer, besides the part of me being nauseous. Good thing I am in my second trimester now! We are back to school and work again. Matt just started the MPA program at BYU and is loving it! I am enjoying my new job alot as well. And we just grow increasingly excited for the baby! We find out in 3 weeks if it is a boy or girl. I am glad we took some pictures this summer so we could remember all the joyful times we had!Matt hiked Timp this morning with some mission friends. They left at midnight, so while he is sleeping I finally get a chance to update our blog!

It is so fun to have Rach at BYU with us now. We hope Amy will join us real soon!

Camping at Raft River with Jules and Nate and Chels, Ty, and Saylor. They have these huge water slides and zip line in the middle of farm fields. We had a blast!

Rachel is home!!! We are so happy to have Hermana Briggs back! She hasn't changed at all. She is still full of life and happiness. This is her and Matt at the SLC airport. WE are so proud of you Rach!

I think every single snow cone I got this summer was with Kaylynn, Matt's aunt.

Duck Races. Kinda weird but they race these rubber duckies down the waterfall in front of the Idaho Falls Temple. Out of the thousands of duckies, mine did not win.

Hawaii was totally unreal. It was the best vacation we have been on. We made so many great memories. It was so good to spend so much time with the in- laws. I love them all so much. Thank you Rand and Karla for everything. We could never thank you enough. Here are just a few of the many wonderful moments we had together. So here we are chasing the dolphins. It was amazing there was a little family of dolphins swimming out in the open ocean. Out of all the cool things we saw under water, my favorite was the dolphins. It was a dream come true actually.

Also one of my favorite things to see were the sea turtles. They so chill, just like in finding Nemo. They will just let you swim right next to them.

The sunrises in the morning were amazing. Oh I wish we could go back. We didn't even mention the many card games of Scum that we played, surfing with Scott, swinging on the vines like Tarzan, eating amazing meals everyday, playing in the waves that stuffed your swimsuits with sand, jumping off the cliffs, all the performances at the PCC, the beautiful rainbows, and Chinese salad in the parking lot, night snorkeling, and so much more!

Scott came to stay with us for a week! It was awesome, we absolutely loved having him here. We can't wait until he comes to BYU!

My favorite part of the 4th is Sparklers. Really!

Watching the fireworks out in front of the Provo temple. We had a great day swimming and golfing in the morning with the Robertsons. Then we went to a BBQ at Brittney and Montanas, and then played games as we waited for the fireworks.

Scotty also loved the air balloons and parade the morning of the forth! Can't you tell!

My mission President finished his mission and took a trip to Utah! It was so good to see him and his wife. I love them dearly.

Hurray Brad is married! We are so happy for them. Brad is a great friend and we love Kristin too. Good luck in Med School.

This is after out first doctors appointment. It was such an amazing experience. We got to hear out baby's heart beat and see him/her wiggling all around. I was amazed at how big our baby is already! It made me so giddy I just couldn't stop smiling!

Court came to town. It is so fun when we meet up. I have such wonderful friends. She looked so happy. I am so glad that her and Tyson are doing we well.

Family Trip to the Oquirah Temple open house. Boy do I miss my sisters now. Cami has moved to Minnesota where John is in med school at the Mayo clinic and Emi moved to Logan where Jeff has his first job as a Lawyer. I am proud of them, but I sure miss them a whole lot. I probably will not get to see my cute mom nearly as much either.

YEAH!!! We are pregnant! Matt and I are so excited to be parents. We were over joyed when we found out. We have been wanting this for some time now.

Chels and Ty made us a cute little congrats bag when they found out we were pregnant. We have the best friends ever!

Matt's mission president came in town, so we took him to the ranch. We had a great time, until one gun backfired and hit Matt right between the eyes. Ouch!

Hiking the Subway with Bri and Lisa. Boy was that an adventure! Somehow we made it through without freezing (swimming though icey mountain water without a wet suit), starving (because our sandwiches got all soggy), or falling off a cliff (we didn't bring any repelling gear). It was way fun!

Yeah the good weather is here and it is time to break out the rollar blades!

I had an awesome birthday, thanks to everyone who remembered and shared their love. All day on my Birthday I was at a Rec Therapy Conference, but I was with a good friend Tayci so it was all good. When I got hope Matt had balloons, flowers, and 2 new plants waiting for me and thenhe took me to get ice cream! We went home to Boise the next day and had a huge party with my whole family and then another party the next night with Matt's family. We are still celebrating with all the free ice cream and dinners you get on your birthday. Tucanos was amazing!

We went with my greeny and her boy to the color festival. It was way fun!! You take this color flour and throw it at eachother while your dancing to music and stuff! I also went crowd surfing for the first time in my life. It was wild (well like good little mormons kinda wild).

Bre finally came to visit us for the weekend, and it was the best ever! Now we are just trying to convince her to move here. We went to go-karts, mini-golf, dippin-dots, and got Edward Vampire teeth. She even made us banana pancakes with Coconut syrup in the morning.

Matt gave me a water color lesson, and I really enjoyed painting! I painted fruit, bananas, peaches, grapes and strawberries.

Over Christmas we piled up a bunch of snow balls and made a slide. Then we put black bags over us so we could be super slippery sliddy down the whole slide. :)

Matt's boys came over for New Years, it was fun to be with Josh, Seth, Sue and Heather.

We went to the Church Hisotry Museum and then played WATER UNO in the Hot Tub. Chels could only put her feet in because she was preggy. Ty had the good idea to use the "life saver" floaty thing as our rotating table. It was awesome.

This Valentine's day we had a blast! Matt even took me to Rodizios the Brazilian Grill. We had so much fun, Juels and Nate came down for the weekend and Ty and Chels met up with us too. Juels hooked us up with a hotel room and we partied. This is us at the Churassco, they even gave us flowers.

For our girls night we went to Christmas around the world together, went to Olive Garden, got matching earrings, watched the babies, and did all the fun girl stuff that you just ache to do with your sisters. Thanks momma for the fantastic time, I loved it!

We were able to go to the First Presidency Devotional on Sunday and it was so so good. It totally brought that wonderful feeling of Christmas that I wish I could be surrounded by every day of the year. After that we went around Temple Square and looked at the lights with Brad and Kristin. It was great!

So we went to this live Nativity and there was a real Camel. It was sweet! His head is like the size of my whole body. It was quite an experience.

It is a tradition in the Tanner Family to make gingerbread houses at Thanksgiving time. This was Matt's first time to join in. Didn't we make a beautiful house? The roof is the coolest!

This semester we have spent so much time in the canyon playing with friends and family, long boarding, biking and rollar blading. We still go almost every week. Chels and Ty got me my very own long board for my wedding present. I love it, it is so cute!

We went to the bahamas on our honeymoon at the end of the summer. It was a blast. Our favorite thing to do was snorkle in the ocean. It is pretty easy to fall in love with. It looks just like Finding Nemo- amazing!

Right after we got married we drove to Texas where Matt sold Pest Control and I completed my internship at Baylor Hospital. You can't go to Texas without seeing the Longhorns.

Wow, I cannot believe we have been married for 6 months already. Married life is better than either of us could have imagined. I will attempt to update a little bit on our first six months as a married couple. Pretty much every day together has been bliss!
